William Lloyd Garrison

 

 prominent American abolitionist, journalist,, and social reformer.

He is best known as the editor of the abolitionist newspaper The Liberator, which he founded 1831

 

 

 

 

 

 


Frederick Douglass 

 

A former slave  who escaped from Maryland in 1838.

 

Became a  social reformer, abolitionist, orator and writer  

 

Founded a black abolitionist paper, The North Star (1847-1851)in Rochester NY 

 

 

 

Sojourner Truth 

 

Born Elizabeth Baumfree in 1797 she changed he name and
became  an African-American abolitionist and women's rights activist. 

 

 

 

 

Harriet Tubman 

Tubman was an agent of the Underground Railroad, a system of “safe houses” and way stations that secretly helped runaways.
